Wedding Cake Trends for Spring/Summer 2014 - Montreal - Metallic - Classic Ivory - Peach

Tis the season of weddings. In Montreal there is no better season than Spring/Summer to get married. We're never guaranteed sunny days but at least the weather is not below zero!! Let's face it, weddings photos with backdrops like Old Montreal and the luscious gardens at our many parks are priceless. Apart from the venues, the menu, the dress, the CAKE; the overall color theme of the wedding is a very integral part of the day. This season, we're seeing more and more metallic accents, a lot of kick back to the classic ivory cakes embellished with florals or lace appliques and more colourful, quirky cakes. Obviously the trends vary according to the different tastes. All in all, we love creating all kinds of cakes for all our special customers! Here are some creative boards to inspire you for your wedding day!



The metallic grey accents with ivory petals is refined but edgy!



We love glitter - by adding just one tier it makes your classic cake one notch more stylish.



       Dusty rose metallic accents adds just that little 'je ne sais quoi' to your cake.  A lavish feathered bridal dress to the mix and ooh la la!



You can't go wrong with the classic multi tier ivory cake with cascading flowers - it's classic and very 'de rigeur' again. Very romantic.

A multi-tiered masterpiece like this with intricate floral pattern deserves an over the top bridal dress and party. Definitely for the bride seeking pure elegance.


 One of our favourite wedding cakes, the detailed lace pattern was time consuming but the end result was magnificent. Elegance and feminism are the adjectives for this wedding theme.


 This board depicts a Chanel fashion show so it's pretty clear that a cake like this is made for the Fashionista girl who loves over the top embellishments. It's Baroque meets the runway!


Ooh J'adore! The sweet pink flowers that adorn this delicately laced cake is pretty and sexy. Above is the sweet table from one of our clients - they did a wonderful display. And with the low lighting, it was sensual and would make us want to get married over and over again!


 Yes, it seems like peach and apricot is taking over pink as an accent this summer. We're seeing more and more tinted dresses to complement the themes - it makes for a more trendsetter wedding.



Speaking of trendy, this crochet floral cake is ideal for that bohemian couple who prefers handmade bonbonnieres in their outdoor wedding.

It's "Zeppole Time" - Pass by for some fresh zeppole at San Marco !!

Guilty! We haven't posted since January. We've been busy making cakes!!! Valentines Day came and went and now we are happily slaving our way into zeppole season. For those who don't know what zeppole are, well here is a brief lesson. Also known as Bignè di San Giuseppe , they are made from deep fried dough and filled with custard or ricotta. Zeppole are traditionally eaten during Saint Joseph's Day (Festa di San Giuseppe) on March 19 in Rome, Naples, Sicily and Sardegna where they are sold on many streets and mostly presented as gifts to family or friends! The custom was popularized in the early 19th century by a Neapolitan baker. Here are some of San Marco's delectable zeppole that we have been serving since late February. Yes, we started earlier because of the high demand we have every year!! Buon Appetito!!
