It's "Zeppole Time" - Pass by for some fresh zeppole at San Marco !!

Guilty! We haven't posted since January. We've been busy making cakes!!! Valentines Day came and went and now we are happily slaving our way into zeppole season. For those who don't know what zeppole are, well here is a brief lesson. Also known as Bignè di San Giuseppe , they are made from deep fried dough and filled with custard or ricotta. Zeppole are traditionally eaten during Saint Joseph's Day (Festa di San Giuseppe) on March 19 in Rome, Naples, Sicily and Sardegna where they are sold on many streets and mostly presented as gifts to family or friends! The custom was popularized in the early 19th century by a Neapolitan baker. Here are some of San Marco's delectable zeppole that we have been serving since late February. Yes, we started earlier because of the high demand we have every year!! Buon Appetito!!

Wow!! When we completed this cake, we were in awe of it. The glittery sequins that our team perfectly set on the cake makes us proud to have such an awesome team!!! This cake screams High Fashion Glam so it's perfect for the Fashionista Bride with a bit of Disco Queen in her! 

Something Blue Wedding Cake - Montreal Weddings

A little tradition in weddings is always nice, don't you agree? This bride chose for her something blue to be on the cake itself and we loved it! One ruffle layer, one floral appliqué layer topped with blue roses is sheer perfection! It would be great if more brides dared to wear more outrageous by wearing more color in their gowns - but, at the end of the day, it's their special day not ours!! ;)

Romance is in the air - Custom Made wedding cakes - Montreal

Romance is in the air again for weddings. Brides are opting for more traditional gowns with pleating, ruffles and lace. Who says it can't be done with uber-class! Ruffles is a big trend for brides. Cutting it with floral appliqués makes this cake less heavy and more delicate. Here's to tradition with a modern twist.

Featured in the InStyle magazine this summer, this mermaid theme was a popular one for us as well! Little Mermaid is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies - I imagine it's touched many a little girl's heart as well. Who doesn't want to live under the sea, free as can be with a best friend who is a lobster?!

Ah! It's already August - a little part of us is looking forward to Fall weddings but a big part of us are sad to depart with SUMMER! We've had a blast making bright summer themed cakes in bold colours like orange and yellow. We saw a lot of pastel pass through our atelier this season - lots of mint green, pastel blues and pinks. Will you marry me? The 4 tiny words that pack a punch indeed! The lavender and pale blue theme shown here was a popular color trend this year. More and more brides are choosing pastel colours for their dresses over the traditional whites and ivories. Blue is especially soothing and adding lavender accents makes for a very calm engagement/wedding day.

Being in Montreal where our summers are so "damn" short, any theme that is related to sun and beach will bring a smile to our face. The 50 shades of Grey phenomenon has grown every year. And now that the movie is going to be released soon, we're grateful that the color grey is indirectly at the forefront. White weddings are the classic way to go and when executed with class - they are so elegant! But, there is something about brides wearing a different hue for her dress - it just sets her apart from the conventional wedding. Here, we were inspired by "shades of grey" for this multi-tiered cake and we are big fans of this crisp and fairytale-like style.

Todays board was inspired by the Chanel style wedding cake we created for a bride. Of course, and black and white theme is the focus playing on Coco Chanel's love for these two non-colors. La vie est belle!
